LOCAL PARTNERS INVITED TO HELP WITH BOURNEMOUTH’S CHRISTMAS HAMPER APPEAL

Churches, charities, agencies, businesses, schools and community groups can now register as partners in support of the hamper appeal. Together we will deliver food hampers to help families celebrate the Christmas season.

On Friday 22 December 2023, Citygate Church and Bournemouth Foodbank will be delivering another 200 hampers households in BH1 - BH11 postcodes. These hampers are a gift containing three days of food and festive treats that aim to show our love for those on the fringes of our community. Each family, volunteer and supporter also receives our Christmas card with a message of hope from the Bible.

Last year we…

  • Benefited 721 people

  • Engaged 85 partner organisations

  • Received 230 nominations

  • Collected 11,000 items

  • Recruited over 200 volunteers

  • Raised £13,400

Thank you for making our Christmas happen. Thank you so much.
— A family who received a hamper

With the support of Bournemouth Foodbank, Citygate will grow and lead a network of partner groups who nominate families, collect food, recruit volunteers and raise funds. As well as working with other local churches, the project has always attracted interest and support from secular organisations and the public at large. Many individuals who hear about the project through local or social media choose to deliver or sponsor a hamper as a simple one-off gift of their time or money.

I just wanted to say thanks for the opportunity to be involved in the hamper delivery operation. It really was a privilege to bring something of Christmas to the local families and a great use of volunteering time.
— John, volunteer driver

After 6 years and 1,200 hampers delivered, the Hamper Appeal has received recognition from the Charity Commission as an independent entity. As well as continuing to support Citygate’s hamper project in Bournemouth, the charity will be able to further develop and share its expertise and resources.

Local church is the hope for the world and by God’s grace we have had the privilege of seeing that come true in Bournemouth. I am really excited that the Hamper Appeal is now able to plant and support church-led projects in other towns across BCP and beyond.
— Ed Briggs, Hamper Team Lead

The Christmas Hamper Appeal Bournemouth is now open for partners to register, drivers to apply and sponsors to donate. For more information, please visit hamperappeal.org/bournemouth.
